How to get here
La Union is one of the four prominent provinces in Region 1. Dubbed as the Surfing Capital of the North, tourists do not usually mind the long-hour travel just to have that once-in- a-lifetime experience with the waves and seas and other destinations in La Union. For those who are planning to visit the province, here are some information that might be a big help especially to first timers.
La Union is bounded by the province of Ilocos Sur on the North, the province of Pangasinan on the South, the province of Benguet in the East and the South China Sea on the West. It has a total land area of 149, 770 hectares. It is approximately 273 kilometers (170 mi) north of Manila and 57 kilometers (35 mi) northwest of Baguio.
La Union could be reached by taking the bus or your own car. Should you choose to take the bus, you may choose from the following bus lines, Partas, Viron and Dominion bus companies when it comes to long distance travels. From the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) or on any starting point inside Metro Manila, go at the nearest bus terminal for the aforementioned bus companies and book for a travel going to the north. Ride a bus going to San Fernando or a bus bound for Candon, Vigan, Laoag or Abra and enjoy an approximately 5-7 hours of travel. Fare ranges from 436.00 to 524.00. Tourists from Baguio and Ilocos Sur/Ilocos Norte are more familiar with La Union so it is not really a huge problem to reach the place.
Upon arrival at San Fernando City, which is also the regional center for the whole Ilocos Region, traveling to the tourist destinations within the province is already easier. When things get complicated, don’t hesitate to ask question to the friendly folks.
