Agoo is among one of the most popular towns of La Union, it being the first to be established in the province on December 8, 1578. The third town northwards of La Union, Agoo is strategically located along McArthur Highway. It is the gateway to Baguio City and the Ilocos Region. Agoo is approximately 235 kilometers from Manila and 34 kilometers from the provincial capital City of San Fernando.

The famous Basilica of Our Lady of Charity is one of the major attractions of the town. Indeed, Agoo is a common stop for Catholic devotees during Holy Week. The feast of their patron Saint Santa Monica is celebrated every 4th of May. Interestingly, it is also during summertime that the delicious “Dinengdeng Festival” is celebrated.

Agoo” is derived from the word “aroo”, a specie of pine tree that thrived in the area centuries ago. Known for its rich religious history, this town has developed significantly in terms of religious, economic, and cultural aspect. The tagline of Agoo is “Agoo, kay ganda.” Aptly named, this town is indeed a beauty and a wonderment.
